Should boys and girls be allowed to play on the same teams?
Apr 26th 2012, 11:00

A 13-year-old boy on Long Island, N.Y., has been told he no longer can play for his high school's all-girl field hockey team. Suffolk County athletic officials say Keeling Pilaro -- all 4-foot-8, 82 pounds of him -- has a significant advantage over the girls he plays against. While his parents are appealing the ruling, the National Federation of State High School Associations reports hundreds of boys across America are playing on girls field hockey teams. Title IX, in fact, allows girls to play on boys teams — including contact sports — if there's no equivalent team for girls. Keeping that in mind, should boys be allowed to play on a girls team if there's no boys equivalent?
